GRADING SYSTEM:

ENGLISH II HONORS

Please use this webpage to gather updated information about your English II Honors class.

I am so happy to welcome you to my English II Honors class. This year we will build on the strong foundation of your English I class. I look forward to learning about your personality and strengths. We will use those elements to help you develop the skills you need to be the most successful, well-informed, self-sufficient, and critical (in a good way!) person you can be. We are going to work on thinking and asking questions, not just on reading some stories. I hope that you will enjoy the challenge of this class and be impressed with your accomplishments.

We have a number of thematic units that will direct our learning, each of which involves reading, writing, and most importantly, thinking. Each six weeks will focus on a specific theme affecting an individual’s G.R.O.W.T.H.

Unit 1: Gaining a New Perspective (the rites of passage)

Unit 2: Relationships (family and friends)

Unit 3: Other Cultures (past and present)

Unit 4: Winning and Losing (learning true meaning of success)

Unit 5: Technology and Nature (setting priorities)

Unit 6: Hope and Adversity (facing and overcoming challenges)

CLASS OVERVIEW:

Six-Week Grade:

Academic Achievement Grades (tests, essays, projects) 75%

Academic Practice Grades (quizzes, homework, etc.) 25%

Semester Grade: This will be determined based on your class average and final.

No retesting or extra credit for Honors classes.

District Policy establishes the following numerical Grading Scale:

A = 90-100

B = 80-89

C = 70-79

F = Failing (Below 70)

Students must earn a minimum of a 75 in order to receive weighted GPA for Honors.

MAKE UP WORK:

School/district policy states that a student has the number of days absent plus one additional day to complete any missed assignments. When you are absent, SEE ME to get the assignment and to make sure you get the accurate instruction. Also, please visit the class website for up-to-date information. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO FIND OUT ABOUT, COMPLETE, AND TURN IN MAKE-UP WORK! You will receive a zero for any make-up work not completed by the due date.

IMP: If students miss a day of school for a school sponsored absence, they are counted as

present on that day. Therefore, any homework that is due on that day must be turned in

BEFORE they leave, or it will be considered late. Students must come by to get the work

they will miss BEFORE their absence and make arrangements for tests AHEAD of time.

LATE WORK POLICY:

DAILY GRADES (Academic Practice):

1 day late = 50% max

2 days late = 0%

MAJOR GRADES (Academic Achievement):

1 day late = 70% max

2 days late = 50% max

3+ days late = 0%
